The area of body language that I want to discuss today is closely related to emotional intelligence. Most of the articles you read are specifically about how to read another person’s body language which is a very important skill to have as an advanced trainer. Just as importantly though is your ability to ensure that your own body language is sending out the right signals. The right signals? Confidence, patience, professional etc. If you have a little think about it you start to realise that if your body language is not correct then the message that you are sending out can be completely distorted. Imagine an OHS trainer who is slouched against the wall with a smirk permanently on their face explaining the importance of safe practice in the workplace. Doesn’t work – does it? Here are some articles which may help you to be more aware, self monitor and possibly change your own body language to send out a more effective message.

This is a good article on how to smile with your eyes.
