Why are you doing this job?

Why do you teach or train or coach or educate? Don’t know? Then it is time to get out. I could point you to a million articles and videos on passion but if you don’t  have it for teaching then you never going to get it and you shouldn’t be doing it. Simple as that. Daniel Pink does a good job of explaining what motivates people to do their best. That is Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose. In teaching you have the opportunity to kick all three as far as you want. Autonomy, in your class or group you are in control. You can do as you want and be as good as you want to be. Mastery, you can acquire as much knowledge and skill as you want, to be as good as you want. Purpose, no brainer. You assist people to achieve their goals. There isn’t too many higher purposes. So, where are you? There are too many teachers and trainers and coaches and educators out there who have forgotten or never known why they took up the role. If you need a little bit of re-orientation then read this post on 20 habits of highly effective educators.
