Holidays and the Future

Well I am back from my holiday in Nth Qld. Getting off the plane, coming from sun, surf and 30 degree days to cold, wet and windy conditions is not only a shock to the body but was a brutal shock to the brain that I had to go to work again, the weather is going to be like this now for at least 5/6 months and my job hasn’t changed. I had that terrible feeling of getting back into the old groove and doing what I need to do each day.

First day back at work I checked my emails etc and found that even though I had been on holidays you had all been busy blogging and commenting on a whole set of issues. At this point I could have felt redundant but I started to realise that there are great possibilities in education and training using technology that we are only just starting to understand, develop and deploy. I was starting to feel good again. I also followed up a couple of RSS feeds that I had received which related to the future of learning and it does look very interesting if you are up to the challenges. By now I was starting to feel excited about being back at work.

One of the sites I looked at was 2020 Forecast: Creating the Future of Learning. I have only just started to look around this site as well as the downloaded report but there are big changes ahead for all trainers and educators.

The second link is a YouTube video which I think you will find very interesting. The future participants in your training sessions will be like the participants on the clip and they are expecting a great deal more from you than sit down, shut up and listen to what I know.

I noticed that one of you had blogged on generational issues and I found this video which is quite interesting.

We face tough times ahead in training and education (a least in the short term) but it is also going to be very exciting if you are prepared to change and adapt. Some articles that I have read indicate that tough times are also the most innovative times as we are forced to become creative. On a lighter note if you hear the comments below beware they are a sign of the changing times
