Friday Review

DCIM100GOPRO

It has been a busy week after a week off skiing in NZ. I had everything competed before I left and then bang, Sunday morning I am working on what was to be this week’s work. I wrote a post recently about reviewing your week which I do mentally but not on paper (or digitally) and I thought that for a at least the next few weeks I would  review my week, encourage you to review your week, learn some review techniques and for those who are looking at getting into training get an inside view of  what it is like to be a full time trainer. This week I am going to use the seven questions from the post I wrote (you can check that post here if you like).

This week featured:

3 full days of delivery – Diploma Project Management, C IV TAE, Analyse and Present Research Information

3 night classes – C IV TAE & Diploma Project Management

Two Distance programs as facilitator (including 1 online hangout)

Distance Marking for another client

Day of writing new material for a client

Day of marking etc for other programs

  1. What pleasant surprises did I discover this week?

After a week off I still like working but I am starting to realise that maybe I work a little too much at times. Three new groups this week and they are so different in dynamic and personality. Some easier than others. People’s ability to present often surprises me. The quiet ones are often the most gifted.

  1. What lessons did my work teach me that I could build upon next week?

Preparation is still king. I will be working this weekend on getting everything in shape for a very busy week next week. Having everything ready in advance allows you to relax and think about what is coming up next. If you are relaxed you can deliver more effectively.

  1. Are my short-term efforts and long-term goals still aligned?

I don’t know. I am moving my long term goals around at the moment as a result of a week off. My short term efforts generate a great income but is that all I want? A question I am yet to answer.

  1. What could I have spent more or less time doing?

Nothing really. I was busy all week with very little time to do anything else. It was all required.

  1. How did fear and uncertainty affect what I did and didn’t do?

I was going to say it didn’t affect anything and then I remembered that I am driven to do the best job I can and I don’t want to let any group down so my own fear of failure drives me all the time. Friday was a good example as it was a new course (never taught it before), new building, new processes (I didn’t get to see them till that morning) and I was being reviewed by the RTO (someone sat in on the group). Yes, that does make you anxious and hence I did a lot of preparation.

  1. What mental clutter can I clear?

My mental clutter exists of things I would like to do. Not sure that I want to drop that as it inspires me. What I need to do is turn that mental clutter into action. Stay tuned.

  1. What is the first logical step for next week?

Planning and prep. I will be working on Saturday and Sunday to do this (hopefully not every hour of those days) as I am working a lot and travelling a lot and there is no time to prepare or think during the week – it just has to be there in my hands and mind when required.

So, how about you? I encourage you to review your week. I would love it if you included here but I know many will not do that. Have a great weekend.
