Friday Review

A different week for me. Instead of being all over the place I was mainly at home working which is good for a change.

If you don’t want to read the whole post below please skip to the end because I would like you to help with something related to my RPL for Diploma TAE.

This week looked like this:

3 night classes – TAE & Project Management

OTEN distance assessment as well as Diploma PM and Diploma Sustainability assessments

One day in Sydney delivering project management

Half day at Tafe delivering Project Management – Friday afternoon (just got home)

Working on my Portfolio for Dip Sustainability and TAE.

Writing assessment centre day for Western Health

Next week will be completely didn’t but that is what I like about it.

Insights for the week. I had a coffee with a training colleague who has recently won training professional of the year and basically because of the industry he is involved in he hasn’t done much work lately. Fortunately this has changed this week with the winning of some contracts. He has also made the finals for elearning projects. This is a really good reminder that you need to diversify and it doesn’t matter who you are (he is very good at what he does) that there are ups and downs in the training business.

We also discussed the nature of what was normally the Christmas/New Year shut down in training and the fact that for both of us it doesn’t happen as much as it used to. I was counting (and hoping) for it this year but I have work right through the period and most likely more despite my desire to have some good quality time off.

I enrolled in a online music mixing course this week, MOOC style. I hope that I can work through this and I am intrigued with how it will work ( I am in a group of 40 people from across the world). I’ll let you know. It appears we will mix music online and critique others work.

What did I learn this week: Even if you have delivered something x number of times you need to read over it before you start. It just works better.

Group dynamics. Great topic. Some of my current groups are awesome. I facilitate. I love teaching them. The two way communication and engagement is great. Others, well it is painful (almost). No interaction. No desire to question. Please can we go through the motions and call it quits. What is the bare minimum I need to do to pass this assessment. I’ve tried. I have taught the same and then completely different. Hey, some groups are tough. They still learn but they do not interact. Does this ring a bell?

Ok, my reflections are over. I need you to comment on my training and assessment abilities. Positive and Negative. Really! For the Dip TAE I need to be reviewed by my peers. It would be great if I could get you all together for a barbie but that is almost impossible. So, why not comment below and please use the strengths and areas of improvement approach. Say what you want and I will not be offended. This will form part of my rpl evidence. Thanks in advance.
