1 - Practice – but good practice.

Want to be a better, more effective trainer or for that matter a better anything? Well you are going to have to do a lot of practice. According to some experts 10,000 hours of practice. Where did that figure come from? What sort of practice works best? How much practice per day or session? These [...]

2 - Presentations Tips

I just started a new Certificate IV in Training and Assessment program last night with a great group on the Central Coast. Our program starts with Making a Presentation which I believe is one of the critical skills for all trainers. Training people is a great profession and requires a large range of skills but [...]

3 - Do you um and ah?

I’ve always told new trainers that they shouldn’t get too concerned about uming and ahing during a presentation unless it is excessive to the point of being distracting. I also don’t mind Ok etc, again as long as it doesn’t get distracting. I have never had any real proof that this isn’t a problem it [...]

4 - It doesn’t matter if you can’t sell your ideas.

Consistently throughout my career I have run into the problem of not selling my ideas effectively. I am better at it now but for a variety of reasons I still miss the mark at times. Some of my ideas have also been crap. A consistent problem that I see is good trainers who really can’t [...]

5 - Talking with your hands

All good trainers use their hands to talk with and to make appropriate learning gestures. I often think that I am using my hands too much but I’m probably not. Wish I was as good as this guy though. can’t see it click here

6 - What’s wrong with working alone.

I have been guilty of writing a number of team and teamwork programs as well as delivering many team based training programs. There is  nothing wrong with teams if that is the way you like to work. But, as I remind many of my participants and clients not everyone works best in a team environment. [...]

7 - SOPA – what does it mean for Australia

You have probably heard of SOPA. It is an American issue or is it. I was trying to do some research the other day and Wikipedia was shut down for 24 hrs and it was very inconvenient. It could be like that after SOPA. sadly if America brings in censorship of the internet I don’t [...]

8 - Another one bites the dust!

I heard the rumour months ago but Kodak has now finally declared bankruptcy. How could this happen especially when they created the first digital camera. Unfortunately they didn’t keep responding and changing to the changing world of photography and film. Now they do not exist. Could this happen to training companies? Could this happen to [...]

9 - Plethora of elearning sites

Love that word – plethora. In this case it is a fitting word. There are a plethora of elearning sites popping up all over the world. Running training onsite, or off site or as in this case through video coaching. Check this one out, Coachy. It is brand new and just getting started but it [...]

10 - The new year and new ideas – skillshare

The skillshare site has been flagged as a must watch startup online company. Interestingly it isn’t about elearning but a site which links learners with learning programs that they are interested in and which are near to them. Check it out. It isn’t opened in Australia yet but……. Would you use it?
