I am running a instructional design session tomorrow with some Diploma participants which meant that I started looking around on the internet for any useful resources (a must for any session planner). I have always thought that instructional design was pretty straight forward but I have been doing it for a long time and I guess I didn’t always find it so intuitive. The main point I would make to all beginner learning designers is that you must balance learning theory, participant profile and content. Add to this a big dollop of imagination and creativity.

Check out this site for an excellent opening video and a really good section on instructional design models. I found this useful.

The video below is a great starter resource as well. I like the fact that the guy talks about training needs analysis which is critical in good design. Check out my videos on TNA here.

And just to finish this post off here is a great resource site taking you right through the process. It is centred around elearning but the principles apply to any type of learning design.
