End of the Week – How productive have you been?

How productive has your week been? Mine has been pretty good. Working for yourself means that you have to be even more disciplined in your approach to the day as I often work at home, which simply means, there are many distractions. Your workplace has many distractions, maybe even more than my own home office. At least I don’t have to deal with talkative co-workers when I am trying to concentrate. I have personally found over the last month or so that how you start the day plays a big role in how well your day ends up. A good start gives you a head start not a sluggish, unmotivated, reluctant crawl into the day. I think everyone needs to find what works for them. The article below will give you some tips but here are some things that I have found work for me. It has changed how I shape up for the day.

Find out what your wake up time is. What I mean by this is that I was always waking up at 5.30am and then going back to sleep a number of times till 7am came around (the time my wife typically wakes up). I started to essentially get up when I woke up. Initially I thought this would make me even more tired but the reverse has happened. I feel great. I have actually found that my mid afternoon slump has also disappeared and I go to sleep quicker and sounder at night.

Second thing I changed was meditating. I have meditated off and on (mainly off) for over 30 years. I never really took it seriously and it was initially undertaken to relieve the pain from migraines I used to get when I was younger. You’ll need to find out what meditation means for you. I will be posting some useful information on Sunday and there is plenty of stuff out there on the internet. So my morning starts with getting up when I wake up, then getting a drink of water, mainly to break off the sleep cycle, and then going back to bed where I meditate for whatever time I have. This can be 30 minutes but at times only 10 minutes as I need to catch a train into Sydney.

If I am working at home I also exercise in the morning. I don’t want to get into the breakfast aspect as I think that is something that everyone has to work out for themselves but I do think a good breakfast is essential.

That’s it. Those simple changes have radically changed my mornings, my whole day and my productivity. Try it out and read the article below.
