Finally we are going to raise the standard of teachers in NSW (why not every state) or are we? The minimum entry standard into teaching will be at least 80 per cent in three subjects including English and, once at university, all students will have to pass a literacy and numeracy test before the end of their degree. Great and so it should be. But. We then give people two optional paths if they can’t meet that standard. Which then weakens the whole strategy. Have some guts NSW and make a decision and stick by it.
